ABAA Project Spotlight
Chamberlin is proud to have two projects featured on the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) Project Spotlight, a virtual museum as a way to better showcase the work its accredited contractor members do, reinforcing why someone would want to use an ABAA accredited contractor on their projects. ABAA is the national voice of the air barrier industry and has raised the level of quality in the industry through a Quality Assurance Program and offers premier training, certification, product evaluations, contractor accreditation and site quality control audits. ABAA is active in the areas of research, education, standards development, building codes and technical resources for the air barrier industry. ABAA is focused on leading the industry into the future in a progressive and professional manner.
St. Martin's Episcopal Church was one of the Chamberlin projects featured in the ABAA project spotlight. St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas was founded in 1952 by J. Thomas Bagby as the largest parish of the Episcopal Church in North America with nearly 9,000 members. Large expansions were completed in 1959, 1984, 1986 and 2011. The campus is now seven acres in area and the church spires are 188 feet high featuring gothic style architecture. Chamberlin installed 96,722 square feet of air barrier.
La Colombe d’Or, a multi-family condominium was the other Chamberlin building featured. The limestone anchoring was very complex and unaccommodating to the air barrier system. The sealing process, while not un-ordinary, was very difficult and tedious. The exterior façade had several different finishes: limestone, brick, curtain wall and metal panels. The framing/sheathing of the building returns in and out throughout the entire façade of the building, requiring a substantial amount of detailing. There were very few flat open surfaces for the area receiving air barrier. The schedule was fast-paced and required a large amount of overtime.
“Chamberlin is the most professional and reliable waterproofer we work with. Their office personnel have in-depth knowledge of the products they recommend and field staff are trained on how they should be installed to achieve a warrantable system. We also greatly benefit from a robust quality control program which includes third party inspections from ABAA. The thoroughness and transparency of their program gives us confidence that we are working as a team to build the best envelope systems for our clients.” – Vice President of Construction with a General Contractor
