You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!

Hello there,

A tiny pinprick or tear can be detrimental to the waterproofing system on your building or parking garage, letting water in and negating the system you spent good money on. Not to mention the cost of repair or replacement. Water testing after installation can help mitigate this potential issue, and there are plenty of methods to choose from.

Electronic Leak Detection (ELD) is relatively new in the waterproofing world and a far cry from some of the low-tech methods used exclusively before its time. In the simplest terms, ELD uses electricity and an electric circuit to detect and identify problem conditions in waterproofing systems and is capable of pinpointing trouble spots with great precision. It can be a real time and money saver. Take a gander at the details here.

ELD and Flood TestingI am kind of an old-fashioned guy who sometimes prefers things done the old-fashioned way. For example, we’re fans of a customer service mentality that harkens back to that of a past era here at Chamberlin. You know, the time when everyone knew and trusted their neighbors and a person's word was as good as gold. But every now and again, a shiny new technology suits our fancy. As a matter of fact, Chamberlin utilized an ELD testing company on an award-winning historical landmark project in Austin to ensure the balcony membranes were watertight. Take a look-see at the project details on our website.

As with most anything, ELD isn’t a ‘one-size-fits-all’ integrity testing method for waterproofing. Project specifics have to be considered when determining the best course of action. There’s still plenty of room in the toolbox for spray testing, flood testing, capacitance (impedance) testing, nuclear metering and infrared (IR) thermal imaging. And regardless of the method
you employ for testing, application or maintenance, keep in mind that it will only be as effective as the technician you trust with the job. Pardon me for boasting, but Chamberlin’s people are some of the most highly trained around. Give us a call - we’re happy to help.

Until next time, I’ll be seeing you around
