Tommy Hernandez (2)

Where it All Started:
Prior to Chamberlin Tommy was a manager, who hired and trained most employees. Overtime Tommy was asked to start the Human Resources Department for that company and over thirty years have gone by since. The way Tommy got affiliated with Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing was by being on the Board of Directors at Catholic Charities and worked directly with John Kafka, who was the Chairman of the Board at the time. Tommy had retired from his previous employer after being with the company for twenty-nine years. After working on a project with John, he asked Tommy if he would be interested in going back to work for a company. Knowing how great a person John was and then meeting Art Canales, Richard Dyke and Doug Combes, Tommy was excited by the opportunity to join the team here at Chamberlin and start their Human Resources Department.

A Day in the Life:
A day in the life for Tommy is a little different each day. His day typically starts at the office around 6:00 am and involves constant interaction with Chamberlin Team members. He spends a lot of time planning, strategizing, reviewing, creating and working with the team members at all levels, to help ensure employee concerns are met, issues are resolved and that the company is ready for the future.

Outlook:
Tommy’s outlook on customer service, safety, quality and teamwork consists of believing that it is his job to ensure whenever he has the opportunity, that every customer internally or externally, knows they are important. Tommy states that without them, we don’t have a business. The three-legged stool, with one addition, says it all: the legs – Safety, Quality, Teamwork and the seat – our customers. Without our customers, we really have no purpose at Chamberlin.

Notable Projects:
When Tommy arrived at Chamberlin, they already had a rich employee focused culture in place. Since then, Tommy has focused on streamlining and defining what the company already had in place, as well as adding enhancements with the help of everyone. With a lot of teamwork and the efforts of the partners, operations, training and development, as well as QA/QC, we have expanded and grown so much as a company.

Greatest Personal Accomplishment:
Tommy’s greatest accomplishment in life is convincing his wife over three decades ago to marry him, as well as raising their two daughters together.

Life Without Chamberlin:
If Tommy wasn’t leading the Human Resources Team at Chamberlin, he would continue to fuel his love for the construction industry. At one point previously, Tommy had an LLC in residential construction when he retired from his last Human Resources position. He would either consider pursing his LLC full-time again or possibly own a small Cajun restaurant on a lake somewhere.
