Easy Changes for Easy Calorie Burning
Finding time to exercise throughout the day is key to a successful health journey. On average, working professionals sit for at least 10 hours a day – minimum eight hours at work, commuting to and from the office, sitting during meals, watching television from the couch – the “Sitting Disease” has become a real epidemic. In addition to morning/evening workouts, incorporating quick and simple changes can make all the difference. Make workplace exercise part of your daily routine. While investing in your own health goals, this is a fun way to collaborate with your team in an active way.
• Standing for 40 minutes a day can help burn off an extra 100 calories! Encourage your team to stand during a meeting or while on a phone call. Break this up into four sessions for 10 minutes at a time.
• Walking around the office for a combined 30 minutes can add up to 100-150 calories burned. Using the copier? Going to the restroom? Getting a cup of water? Take an extra lap or two around your floor to get those steps in.
• 10 flights of stairs a day at a casual pace burns at least 50 calories. Try taking the stairs down to lunch or grab a teammate and take a flight up and down between meetings.
• Stretch sesh? Standing up to stretch for 10 minutes a day can burn around 50 calories. Burn calories and release muscle tension.
• Park on one of the top floors, furthest from the elevators, and use the stairs down to the lobby to torch some extra calories.
