Chamberlin Receives National Excellence in Construction Award
Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) awarded Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing’s work on the City of Houston’s Permitting Center project in Houston with an Eagle Award in the “Exteriors – All Contract Amounts” category of ABC’s National Excellence in Construction Awards. Chamberlin team members, Lyle Coston and Jonathan Winkles, received the award on the company’s behalf during the 22nd annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix.
“ABC is proud to recognize Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing for its outstanding work on the City of Houston’s Permitting Center project,” said Michael D. Bellaman, ABC president and CEO. “This project embodies a commitment to innovation, safety and superior craftsmanship through creativity and skill.”
The Excellence in Construction awards program is the industry’s leading competition, developed to honor innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost.
Chamberlin successfully restored the triple wythe masonry structure with numerous unforeseen existing conditions for the City of Houston under the direction of Manhattan Construction. Due to the building’s age and deterioration, Chamberlin patched 380 percent more of the exterior face than originally expected. The project achieved LEED Gold Certification, which fulfills the City of Houston’s Green Building Resolution target for all new construction and renovated buildings owned by the city that are over 10,000 square feet.
A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges. This year's panel included representatives from the Design-Build Institute of America, Engineering News-Record, the American Institute of Architects, the National Association of Women in Construction, and representatives from higher education, among others.
